If you’re planning a pre wedding shoot in Cheshire and wondering where to go, here’s a list of relaxed, real-life ideas that work brilliantly for natural, low-pressure photos.

I always recommend choosing somewhere that feels like you — whether that’s a quiet walk in the woods or a pint in your favourite pub.

Below are some of my favourite pre wedding shoot locations across Cheshire (and a couple just beyond) to help you get inspired.

01.

Canal Walks – Cheshire’s Hidden Gem

There are loads of scenic stretches of canal throughout Cheshire, especially around places like Lymm, Northwich, and the outskirts of Chester. They’re quiet, easy to access, and brilliant if you want something simple and outdoorsy.

Towpaths work well whatever the season — even in winter, you’ll find subtle colours and reflections in the water.

Tip: Evening light along the water can be magical. Bring a coat and a flask if it’s chilly.

02.

Chester City Centre

If you like the idea of something a bit more urban but still very ‘Cheshire’, Chester is ideal.

You’ve got the city walls, cobbled streets, tucked-away lanes, and the Rows — a really unique backdrop.

There’s also the river if you want to end the shoot with a wander along the Dee.

Good for: couples who want a bit of energy, texture, and architectural interest in their photos.

03.

Tatton Park, Knutsford

This one’s a classic, and for good reason.

Wide open space, woodland, wild deer if we’re lucky, and great golden hour light in the evenings.

There’s a lot of variety here without needing to go far — perfect for a laid-back shoot where we can just explore a bit.

04.

Delamere Forest

Delamere is one of my go-to pre wedding shoot locations in Cheshire if you’re after woodland.

It’s peaceful, and there’s loads of space to just be yourselves.

No crowds. No stress. Just trees, soft light, and a bit of fresh air.

Autumn here is something else. But it works in every season — even misty mornings have their charm.

05.

Marbury Park, Northwich

A brilliant park with lakes, tall trees, and really easy parking — ideal if you want a nature-inspired shoot that doesn’t involve too much walking.

The mix of open fields and woodland means we can get a good variety of photos without needing to move around too much.

06.

Little Budworth Common

This one’s a bit more under-the-radar.

Little Budworth is a peaceful, heathland-style spot with pine woods and walking trails — perfect if you want something that feels wild and not overly ‘done’.

Great for couples who prefer a quieter, more secluded setting.

07.

Sandstone Trail Viewpoints (e.g. Beeston Castle area)

Parts of the Sandstone Trail offer some amazing open views of the Cheshire countryside.

Near Beeston Castle, there are some lovely spots with rolling fields, dry stone walls, and big skies. Especially good if you like a bit of drama in your photos.

Good walking shoes are a must, but the views are worth it.

08.

A Local Coffee Spot + Wandering Streets

Sometimes the best shoots happen when we start somewhere you already love — like your favourite café in Altrincham or a coffee shop in Chester, then go for a relaxed wander nearby.

It’s casual, familiar, and a great way to ease into the shoot without it feeling like a 'photoshoot'.

09.

St Annes Beach (A bit of a drive from Cheshire)

Not strictly Cheshire, but a favourite if you don’t mind a little trip.

St Annes Beach near Blackpool has huge open sand, space to breathe, and lovely light in the evenings.

Ideal if you love the sea but don’t want anything too crowded or full-on.

Bonus Tip: Make It Personal

Some of the best pre wedding shoots I’ve done haven’t been in well-known places — they’ve been in spots that actually mean something to the couple. That might be a local farm you visit together, the pub where you had your first date, or even your back garden if that’s where you feel most yourselves.

If you’re into animals, we can look at shooting somewhere like an open farm park (if they allow photography), or even bring your dog along for the shoot. It’s about you two — not just the location.

FAQs About Pre Wedding Shoots in Cheshire

When’s the best time for a pre wedding shoot?

I love shooting in the evening — especially golden hour, when the light is soft and flattering. Weekday evenings are usually quieter in public places, which helps if you’re feeling nervous about being photographed.

What should we wear?

Keep it simple and comfortable. No need to match — just avoid anything with big logos or graphics. Layers work well if the weather turns, and good shoes are always a plus if we’re out in nature.

Can we choose more than one location?

Definitely. If they’re close together, we can make a bit of a loop and get a mix of backdrops. Just let me know what you have in mind.
