Black and White 35mm Film Wedding Photography

a MORE CONSIDERED WAY OF SEEING YOUR WEDDING DAY

Alongside my digital coverage, I offer 35mm black and white film wedding photography as an optional add on for couples who want something a little different. Photographs with depth, texture and a timeless quality that can’t be replicated.

As a wedding photographer shooting film, I use analogue photography to quietly elevate the emotional moments of the day. Honest expressions. Subtle interactions. The atmosphere between moments.

Why Black and White Film?

Black and white film strips everything back to what matters, Light. Shadow. Expression. Connection.

It removes distraction and focuses your attention on feeling rather than colour. The result is wedding photography that feels nostalgic without being styled or forced. Images that could belong to any era, and therefore never date.

Film grain, tonal range and softness combine to create photographs that feel lived in, human and deeply emotional.

A Personal Connection to Film Photography

Long before I photographed weddings, I learned photography on film. I shot and developed my own black and white film in college, and later returned to it as a hobby to capture my own life, drawn back to the slower pace, the discipline, and the craft behind each frame.

Bringing analogue photography into weddings feels like coming full circle. It’s not a trend for me. It’s a way of working that I’ve always loved, now woven into the stories I tell for couples.

How Film Fits Into Your Wedding Day

This is a hybrid approach.

I don’t shoot your entire wedding on film. Instead, I use black and white 35mm film intentionally during moments where it adds something meaningful:

  • Quiet emotional exchanges
  • Ceremony moments
  • Natural portraits
  • Documentary storytelling throughout the day

Digital photography ensures complete coverage. Film adds atmosphere, soul and a sense of permanence.

Every roll is carefully chosen, professionally developed and thoughtfully curated into your final gallery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this colour film converted to black and white?

No. This is real black and white 35mm film, shot and developed as intended.

Will film replace digital coverage?

No. Film complements digital photography rather than replacing it.

How many film images will we receive?

Film is shot intentionally rather than in volume. You’ll receive a carefully curated selection integrated into your full gallery. That said, I will shoot 5 rolls of 36-exp film on the day, before curating.
